I understand the issues facing people in Calder Valley because this is where I’m from; it’s my home. I grew up in Hebden Bridge and, after moving back to the area from Brighouse with my wife Rebecca, I’m now a local councillor. As the parliamentary candidate for Labour in 2015 and 2017 I have knocked on doors and spoken to voters in every part of the constituency.
I am involved in supporting local charities including having raised almost £4,000 for Slow the Flow Calderdale, a flooding prevention charity and I’m an active member of the Elland Round Table.
I have spent my career working for Labour values, whether working for the trade union movement at PCS and Usdaw, or working for charities that campaign to help people on low incomes. My current role is for a charity working to end food poverty in the UK and help fix the welfare system.
